NSRP-British Council Recruitment, Nigeria Stability And Reconciliation Programme
British Council build trust and understanding between people worldwide by enabling them to share ideas and knowledge. British Council call this cultural relations.
The British Council in Nigeria has been contracted by the UK’s Department for International Development to manage the Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Programme (NSRP). The British Council works in partnership with International Alert and with Social Development Direct. The implementation phase of this five year programme will start in August 2012.The British Council is now looking for suitably qualified individuals to complement the existing team and to fill the following posts:

The duties of the posts are given below.
Security Coordinator
  • The management and development of the security system for the NSRP including the enhancement of the management plan, the strategic operating procedures and the updating of the operating context
  • Liaison on all issues relating to safety and security with appropriate agencies, institutions and individuals
  • The appropriate training and updating of staff in Abuja and all regional offices on all issues relating to safety and security
Resources Officer
  • Ensuring the programme’s resources function supports the programme requirements and operations to the highest possible standards.
  • Responsibility for ensuring efficient and effective deployment of programme resource facilities
Procurement Officer
  • Ensuring the programme procurement strategy and plans are developed and implemented to client and corporate standards.
  • Building, maintaining and managing relationships with the programme’s core suppliers.
  • Management of the programme’s asset register.
  • Ensuring the management and regular updating of the Approved Suppliers Listing
  • Ensuring NSRP achieves value for money through its procurement process.
Programme Officers
  • The successful implementation of specified projects and ensuring client, corporate and programme standards are fully met.
  • Ensuring specified project activities are accurately costed and budgets are managed effectively.
  • Timely and accurate support to financial and technical reporting.

The British Council has been unique since its inception in 1934. At that time, some European states
were manifesting their approach to international relations with the aid of rearmament, marching songs
and aggressive declarations about mare nostrum and Lebensraum. By contrast, British establishment
genius thought that a more desirable way of spreading and strengthening influence would be
through the development of cultural relations – although King George V declared in a rather muscular
way that the British Council had been created ‘to show the world what it owes to Great Britain’.
Happily, the first employees of the British Council had more emollient and creative aspirations.
Accordingly, they then set about fulfilling the purpose of the organisation, defined in the founding
Charter as ‘promoting abroad a wider appreciation of British culture and civilisation [by] encouraging
cultural, educational and other interchanges between the United Kingdom and elsewhere’.

British Council Nigeria is currently recruiting for the position of an Arts Manager.
NIGERIA – ARTS MANAGER
The British Council in Nigeria is looking for a qualified individual to fill the post of ‘Arts Manager’.
JOB AIM:
To work with the BC senior team in Nigeria to deliver programmes, audiences and partnerships which contribute to the British Council’s cultural relations programme through the arts and creative industries.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintain and expand knowledge of the Nigerian arts sector
Develop relationships with key practitioners and organisations
Provide market intelligence and information

Manage agreed budgets to British Council standards
ESSENTIAL SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS AND KNOWLEDGE
Up-to-date knowledge of the Nigerian/African/UK arts and creative sectors with a broad network of contacts

An understanding of the educational, developmental and creative industry opportunities of the arts
Three years of experience in Nigeria’s arts sector, ideally with international links
A bachelor’s degree

Project Manager
Duties:
To develop, deliver and lead a suite of products and services. To ensure that the BC gains maximum impact from its services and that opportunities are taken to work across teams to secure an integrated response. To build strong partnerships and all products to have an income target.
To manage a portfolio of country, regional and global products as defined in the Regional and Country delivery plans in all key sectors of the British Council programme
To ensure effective monitoring and evaluation of all products including the compilation of Scorecard data and other evaluation tools required by corporate standards of external clients.
To develop agreed business streams for product development
To seek out strategic partnerships to gain leverage
